East Cooper Medical Center has hired a new CEO to replace Jason Alexander, who left the hospital last week.
Patrick Downes’ first day as CEO was Monday. He is responsible for all hospital operations, executive planning and medical services of the 130-bed, acute care hospital in Mount Pleasant, a company news release said.
“Patrick is a strong leader who is well-poised to guide our administrative team at East Cooper Medical Center towards continued growth and success,” Marsha Powers, CEO of Tenet Healthcare Corp.’s Coastal Division, said in the news release. Tenet Healthcare is East Cooper Medical Center’s parent company.
“Based on his track record within our company, we are confident that he will ensure the continued delivery of high-quality health care to our patients that the hospital is known for,” Powers said.
Downes, who has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Florida State University, was most recently CEO of Tenet Healthcare’s Coral Gables Hospital in Florida. Prior to that, he was COO of Hialeah Hospital in Florida for four years.
Alexander left East Cooper to become senior vice president of Ascension Healthcare and Birmingham Ministry market executive leading St. Vincent’s Health Services in Birmingham, Ala., according to Ascension. Alexander led East Cooper since 2011.
