Have you ever desired to run for public office? You’re not the only one. The Charleston Metro Chamber has launched a public service training program designed to identify, cultivate and train people interested in running for public office or serving on appointed boards and commissions, the chamber said in a news release.

Civic Leadership Academy is created in partnership with Charleston Trident Association of Realtors and Charleston Home Builders Association.

The program includes three half-day sessions. Attendees will have the chance to meet with regional and national experts, learning about campaign fundraising and budgeting, polling, data-driven decision-making and expectations of a civic leader, the release said.

Bryan Derreberry, president and CEO for the Charleston Metro Chamber, said the new program represents a larger value to the community.

"Civic Leaders Academy will equip those who are interested in getting involved with local or state government to gain a deeper understanding of our region's critical issues, learn valuable tools for their future political or board aspirations and build incredible connections with fellow leaders in our community,” Derreberry said in a statement.

Applications are open now and the deadline to apply for the program is April 15. For additional information, contact Bailey Vincett, government relations coordinator with the Charleston Metro Chamber, at 843-471-2611.
