Charleston County is set to receive federal grant funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help prevent, prepare for and respond to COVID-19. The county is asking citizens to fill out a survey to determine how to prioritize the funding.

Charleston County is expected to receive $1.1 million from a Community Development Block Grant and $535,900 from an Emergency Solutions Grant.

The survey asks residents what the top five greatest needs are for the community. Options include operation of emergency shelters; assistance for vulnerable individuals and families; housing assistance for rent, mortgages and utilities; support for businesses manufacturing medical supplies; and provision of healthy food, medical and legal services access to vulnerable individuals and families.

The options provided are defined by HUD, and the survey includes an open-ended question about anything else the Charleston community needs related to COVID-19.

The deadline to complete the survey is noon Monday.
