North Charleston is preparing to update its comprehensive plan, called Prime North Charleston. Five open house-style public meetings are scheduled this month in each of the city’s planning areas. The meetings will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on the following days:

  • Tuesday at the North Charleston Transit Center.
  • Wednesday at the Wescott Park Community Center.
  • Feb. 24 at the Miner Crosby Community Center.
  • Feb. 25 at the Gussie Greene Community Center.
  • Feb. 26 at the North Charleston Athletic Center.

Attendees will be able to give input on how the city can accommodate growth.

The comprehensive plan is a long-range, strategic plan that provides the framework for the city staff and elected and appointed officials to develop policies to reflect the community’s vision, according to the city’s website. The plan describes the future of the community and provides a basis for evaluating future development, redevelopment and land use decisions in North Charleston.

According to the 59-page Prime North Charleston Comprehensive Plan draft (.pdf), the plan will be based on guiding principles that include livability and quality of life, sustainable growth and resiliency, economic opportunity, and mobility and connectivity.

The comprehensive plan update was initiated in the fall of 2018.
