Electrify America installs 5 S.C. vehicle charging stations

Electrify America, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group of America headquartered in Reston, Va., has opened five electric vehicle charging stations across South Carolina, including one in the Lowcountry.

“Our goal is to make charging easier and more accessible for electric vehicle drivers, or those considering purchasing one, when they hit the road,” Anthony Lambkin, senior manager of charging operations for Electrify America, said in a news release. “These stations will provide drivers with more convenient charging options across the state of South Carolina.”

The company is in the process of installing a network of electric vehicle chargers across 42 states and Washington, D.C.

S.C. charging stations are located at:

Landon Masters, clean transportation and communications manager for the S.C. Office of Regulatory Staff’s Energy Office, said in the release that the state plans to install signage to guide drivers to the charging stations.

Depending on the location, Electrify America’s charging stations offer power options from 50 to 350 kilowatts, which can charge a vehicle at a rates of 20 miles of distance per minute of charge.

Charging fees vary by location. In North Charleston, up to 50 kW and 75 kW are 25 cents per minute; up to 125 kW is 69 cents per minute; and up to 150 kW and 350 kW are 99 cents per minute, plus a $1 fee per session.
