Frampton Construction Co. has broken ground on a 130-door, 89,000-square-foot transload facility near Clements Ferry Road.

The warehouse is the second Charleston location for TradePort Logistics, a Georgia-based company that that carries cargo for companies such as Walmart. In 2019, the company established its first operations in South Carolina with a 200,000 square foot warehouse near Wando Welch Terminal.

Frampton will provide planning and design support for the Cainhoy project, as well as preconstruction and construction services. The Keith Corp. is developing the project in partnership with the S.C. Ports Authority.

George Powers, president and CEO of TradePort Logistics, said the industry is in dire need of this type of warehouse.

“With this operation, we’ll take consumer goods more swiftly from seaport to store-front, lessening the supply chain backlog and speeding along the sales transaction, which is always a plus for the bottom-line,” Powers said in a statement.

Keaton Green, vice president at Frampton construction, is eager to see construction get underway.

“It’s a step in the right direction toward alleviating the strain on the supply chain and enhancing the flow of goods to Charleston area residents,” Green said in a statement.

TradePort Logistics’ expansion will benefit retailers and consumers given its proximity to the Port of Charleston, said Micah Mallace, senior vice president of marketing and sales for S.C. Ports Authority.

“Transload services are in high demand, and this facility will deliver much-needed capacity in the supply chain. We look forward to our continued partnership with The Keith Cor. and TradePort Logistics,” Mallace said in a statement.
