A&R Logistics Inc., a supply chain services company based in Louisville, Ky., plans to establish a new export facility in Berkeley County with a $60 million investment.

Founded in 1969, A&R Logistics provides a variety of bulk transportation and logistics solutions in the chemical industry, including dry bulk transportation, warehousing, packaging, third-party logistics and export solutions.

The new, 615,000-square-foot facility in West Branch Commerce Park will contain four packing lines for plastic resin, according to the company, and will offer packaging and logistics services for customers shipping products out of the Port of Charleston.

A&R Logistics is expected to create at least 60 jobs at its new facility, according to the S.C. Department of Commerce; the facility is slated to be operational in the fourth quarter of 2020.

“Today’s announcement by A&R Logistics, Inc. is a testament to the logistics advantages and pro-business environment that South Carolina offers,” Commerce Secretary Bobby Hitt said in a news release. “We’re excited to have such a dynamic company locate its operations in the Lowcountry and look forward to their success in our state for many years to come.”

Berkeley County Supervisor Johnny Cribb said in the release that much of A&R Logistics’ products will be moved using existing rail, which will limit the number of additional trucks on roadways.

A&R Logistics President and CEO Mark Holden said the S.C. Ports Authority has been collaborative, which made locating in the Lowcountry an easy decision for the company.

“A&R is thrilled to partner with the great state of South Carolina and the Port of Charleston to expand its operations to the East Coast,” Holden said. “We believe combining the Port of Charleston’s efficient operations with A&R’s deep experience in packaging and premier customer service will offer unparalleled service to the chemical and plastics industry.”
