Lowcountry leaders will join the commander of Joint Base Charleston, Col. Terrence Adams, on Friday to renew the charter for the Lowcountry Defense Community Partnership Council.

The council provides a framework for identifying the needs of Joint Base Charleston and community partners. A news release said the goal is to sustain and increase the military value of Joint Base Charleston and to support the economy and quality of life of the Lowcountry.

The 2019-2020 Lowcountry Defense Community Partnership Council includes 18 members, with representation from Joint Base Charleston, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce, Charleston County School District, local municipalities, colleges and agencies.

According to the news release, the council is a result of the Air Force Community Partnership Program, an initiative that works to foster relationships and promote innovation between military bases and their surrounding communities.

Since January 2013, the Air Force Community Partnership Program has led 62 military installations and communities to partner across more than 1,000 initiatives, yielding 400 agreements signed and $68 million in benefit to the Air Force, the release said.
