The Charleston Regional Business Journal was honored with two journalism excellence awards during a national trade association meeting in Dallas last week.
The Business Journal won a silver award for best daily email newsletter for the Daily Journal and a bronze award for best overall design during The Alliance of Area Business Publishers’ annual meeting, which was held over three days and ended with an awards ceremony Saturday night.
“Strong headlines and illustrative photos help guide readers of this daily newsletter,” judges from the University of Missouri School of Journalism noted about the Daily Journal, which is edited by senior copy editor Beverly Barfield. “This entry has the feel that great care is put into the story selection, the writing and the delivery.”
The judges said assistant graphic designer Emily Matesi’s work on the print edition of the Business Journal includes a thoughtful balance of graphic elements and packaging to guide readers.
“This publication is noteworthy for its fine use of multiple elements, not just big splashy package: Infographics, photography that has dominance on a page, inside stories with photographs and good portraiture, and one of the better displays of briefs,” judges said.
