The architecture and engineering firm behind Home Depot has acquired South Carolina’s SGA NarmourWright Design.

The move for Atlanta-based GreenbergFarrow will boost its continued expansion into new sectors and markets, the company said in a news release.

With the merger, SGA NW will retain its brand and organizational structure. Steve Goggans also will stay on as president, continuing his duties leading daily operations.

Established in 1987, SGA NW has five offices throughout the Carolinas and delivers design solutions in multifamily, education, civic, health care, planning and landscape design. Offices are located on Meeting Street in Charleston and South Main Street in Greenville, as well as in Pawleys Island, Myrtle Beach and Charlotte.

All SGA NW team members and offices will remain with the company.

Given the rapid population growth and demand for housing, the South Carolina company is also an entry into multifamily, parks and historic and adaptive reuse in the Southeast, according to the release.

“Our combined efforts will elevate the best of both companies — a passion for design and a great business culture towards new horizons for our teams. We’re excited about our alignment and the unlimited opportunity ahead,” Goggans said in a statement.

In 2018, SGA merged with NarmourWright, a 40-year-old multifamily design firm, to form SGA NW. SGA NW has five offices spread through the fast-growing areas of the Carolinas.

GreenbergFarrow was founded in 1974 to design Home Depot stores. Since then, the firm has grown into a multidisciplinary architectural and engineering firm known for its architectural, engineering and development services across sectors including retail, hospitality, and mixed use.

Keith Johnston, president and CEO of GF, said the acquisition allows the company to build on similar cultures, values and a commitment to client care.

“I envision the GF brand benefitting from client and market sector diversification as well as a geographic presence in emerging markets. SGA NW will benefit by having the platform to scale a brand deeply rooted in community focused design,” he said. “They have built up an outstanding reputation in their regions, and we look forward to them joining the GF family of companies.”
