Columbia, S.C. – Conservatives for Clean Energy-South Carolina (CCE-SC) released a new statewide poll today showing strong voter support for clean energy in the Palmetto State. The South Carolina statewide survey was conducted via IVR and Online (Text-to-Web) Interviews from June 23 – June 27 among a random sample of 900 likely general election voters. The survey has a margin of error of +/- 3.3 percentage points.

Top findings:
71% of South Carolina registered voters support development of renewable clean energy in SC.
67% believe it is important for South Carolina to grow and use renewable energy resources.
59% of voters agree that increasing our use of clean and renewable energy sources in South Carolina will create more jobs and encourage economic development throughout the state.

Over the last several months, many private sector companies have announced clean energy jobs and investments in South Carolina. For example, Scout Motors plans a $1.3 billion investment and 4,000 new jobs in Richland County, and Redwood Materials announced a $3.5 billion investment and 1,500 jobs in Berkeley County. According to CCE-SC’s polling, these types of clean energy economic development announcements have caught the eye of South Carolina voters.

“South Carolina is a national leader in building a clean energy economy,” said CCE-SC State Director Nick Murray. “These poll results clearly show that South Carolinians recognize the growing economic impact and job opportunities heading to South Carolina in the clean energy sector”.

Polling showed that most respondents (71%) support the continued development of renewable clean energy. Additionally, the survey found that 71% of all South Carolina voters believe climate change is occurring.

Mark Fleming, President & CEO of Conservatives for Clean Energy, said, “South Carolina voters firmly and strongly support clean energy development. The resulting jobs and economic investment will help us all become better stewards of God’s creation.”
