A new computer numerical control tooling company plans to establish operations in Colleton County and create 28 new jobs.

Charleston Composites Inc. will be located in an 87,000-square-foot facility at 1113 Hope Plantation Lane in Jacksonboro, about 30 miles west of Charleston. The company will have three five-axis large-format computer numerical control mills to provide advanced tooling for the manufacture of large boats.

Ben Robertson, president of Charleston Composites, also owns Bar Marine Group, a boat dealership located in Jacksonboro.

Charleston Composite said in a news release that it plans to eventually expand into the aerospace, automotive and defense sectors.

The company is investing $3.8 million to build out its operations, and the S.C. Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a $200,000 Rural Infrastructure Grant for Colleton County to assist with site preparation and building construction.

The facility is expected to be complete by April.

Colleton County Council Chairman Steve Murdaugh said in a statement that he’s looking forward to watching Charleston Composites grow.

“It’s a great day when new jobs are announced in Colleton County,” Murdaugh said.

Robertson did not return an email and two phone messages left for him by press time.
