On the Menu provides the latest news from the Charleston area’s culinary community, including new restaurants, new menu items and upcoming events, as well as details about local chefs. ATTENTION: Submissions should now be made using our online form.

The Charleston RiverDogs have scheduled the 16th annual Ballpark Festival of Beers for 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Riley Park. Attendees can sample more than 100 varieties of beer, including American and international ales, stouts, lagers, pilsners and specialty brews.

General admission tickets are $30 before the day of the event at Kickin’ Chicken locations and $35 at the Riley Park box office and online. General admission tickets include 18 beer sampling tickets and a sampling glass. Designated driver admission is $15 the day of the event, in person at the box office only.

VIP tickets are $60 and include 25 tickets, 6 p.m. entry to the event and access to the Kickin’ Chicken VIP tent with specialty beers provided by Commonhouse Aleworks, tastings from Firefly Vodka and food from Kickin’ Chicken.

All attendees must be 21 or older with proof of identification.

Le Creuset is set to host its Factory-to-Table event from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 28-29 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Charleston Area Convention Center. There will also be a VIP shopping session from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 27.

Each session will include discounts on a selection of the cookware brand, including limited-edition colors and rare shapes and styles.

Tickets are $25 for the VIP event, $10 for Sept. 28-29 and free for Sept. 30; online advance registration is required for all sessions. All of the ticket proceeds will go to scholarship funding for Culinary Institute of Charleston students at Trident Technical College, as well as the Palmetto Goodwill program Culinary Kick-Start, a hands-on program that provides entry-level job seekers with skills and on-site training.


Edmund’s Oast will offer an array of wild and sour beers from Allagash Brewing Co. on Aug. 28 starting at 5 p.m.


The fifth annual S.C. Reggae Jerk & Wine Festival is scheduled for noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 26 at Magnolia Plantation and Gardens. Samples of Jamaican jerk foods will be paired with wines.

Guests receive an engraved 9-ounce commemorative wine glass and a free jerk sample with wine pairing.

Admission is $40. Tickets for designated drivers and young adults under 21 are $25. Children under 12 are free.

A portion of proceeds will benefit the Healthy Lifestyle Network, a nonprofit organization that works to help children and adults in Charleston and to fight childhood sexual abuse in Jamaica. Donations of school supplies, soccer balls sizes 3 and 4, shin guards, arts and crafts, cotton fabric and hand quilting thread are welcome.
