 src=Seafood-centric restaurant The Establishment is scheduled to open early next month at 28 Broad St. Matt Canter, formerly of Fig and The Park Cafe, will be executive chef of the new eatery. The space will include an 18-seat bar, a 140-seat dining room with open kitchen and 10-seat chef’s communal table, and a private dining room.


Halls Signature Events, at 5 Faber St. in downtown Charleston, is hosting a dinner party at 7 p.m. April 25. The event includes food paired with four California wines and a Champagne.

The menu is:

  • Passed hors d’oeuvres: spiced tuna, caviar and buckwheat blini; cold smoked duck, local strawberry mostarda, foie gras brioche and crackling; and spring pea radish and a pastry basket, paired with Maison Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
  • First course: Johnston County country ham, monkfish, saffron pappardelle, Clammer Dave’s clams, paired with a 2015 Jordan chardonnay from Sonoma, Calif.
  • Second course: crispy veal sweetbread with pancetta, tomato, turnips and a creamed claret, paired with Newton Skyside claret from Napa, Calif.
  • Third course: a venison chop, with dry-aged brewed short rib, mushrooms en croute, rainbow carrot and green herb puree with a natural reduction, paired with Caymus cabernet sauvignon from Napa.
  • Dessert: triple chocolates, hazelnut chiffon and passionfruit, paired with Trefethen Late Harvest Riesling from Napa.

Tickets are $185 per person. Seating is limited.


Coastal Provisions at Wild Dunes Resort is offering a new spring menu, which is focused on light and fresh flavors and sustainable seafood.

One dish on the new menu is a skillet pork chop made with braised spring onions, grilled pickled ramps, heirloom tomato emulsion, smoked gouda and grit cakes.

Other seasonal dishes include pan-roasted chicken breast paired with Caribbean quinoa salad with pineapple and jalapeno salsa; and fried green tomatoes with arugula and kale pesto and spicy buttermilk dressing.


The seventh annual Charleston Beer Garden, set for noon to 7 p.m. Saturday at The Grove at Patriots Point, includes 30 breweries from across the Carolinas, as well as beer games such as arm-wrestling, pony hops, hands-free pizza eating, cornhole and a keg toss. There will be 20 local arts and crafts vendors and food trucks.

General admission tickets are $25 in advance and $35 the day of the event. VIP tickets are $50 in advance and include 15 tasting tickets plus access to the shade tent, private seating and bathrooms. Proceeds from the event will support Lowcountry AIDS Services.
