Lowcountry Juneteenth of Charleston, SC will be hosting its first ever outdoor festival during a weeklong celebration called Lowcountry Juneteenth Week, June 14-20, 2021. Lowcountry Juneteenth Week will highlight black owned businesses with curated events throughout the city with live performances, exhibits, seminars and more. LJW will also focus on economic empowerment by presenting virtual seminars that focus on health and wellness, real estate, financial freedom, legal matters and entrepreneurship. Some highlights of the festival will include Kid’s Day presented by non profits Acts of Kindness and Every 1 Voice Matters, a Tribute to Anita Baker concert presented by Zandrina Dunning of the ZD Experience & Charleston Music Hall, featuring Black Diamond & Friends, Dennis L. Kings theatrical play Illusions featuring Tony Grant from the Tyler Perry play Why Did I get Married, A culinary experience with 5 course meal and wine pairings with Celebrity Chef Carlos Brown and Leeah’s Old Village Wine Shop, a golf tournament by the Mu Alpha chapter of Omega Psi Phi and the main attraction..a family day of fun on Saturday June 19th at The Bend, a breathtaking waterfront venue located in beautiful North Charleston. The festival also welcomes Ms. Opal Lee, 94-year-old community activist, who has long advocated for a national celebration of Juneteenth. Celebrities like Usher, Diddy, Lupita Nyong’o, Jamie Foxx and others have also expressed support for her efforts. Ms. Opal’s efforts have garnered over a million signatures to make Juneteenth a nationally recognized federal holiday. Lowcountry Juneteenth Week has been declared the “Official” Juneteenth Festival of the Lowcountry by the Juneteenth National Observance Foundation where Ms. Opal Lee is the oldest member. Lowcountry Juneteenth Week is sponsored by ChuckTown Bar & Grill, Acts of Kindness USA, Every 1 Voice Matters, Making a Difference Inc., Attorney Thad Doughty, God’s House of Worship, Avery Institute, Avery Research Center, Radar Live and Titos Vodka.
