A Charleston edition of the board game Monopoly is expected to hit store shelves in November — and you can have a say on what it will look like.

Until April 7, fans of the popular game can voice which locations they would like to see featured on the board via the official Monopoly: Charleston Edition email at, according to a news release.

The new Monopoly edition will see locally themed squares replace Boardwalk and Park Place from the original Atlantic City Monopoly board and will include a customized “Community Chest” and “Chance” playing cards, the release stated. A few squares will also be dedicated to some of Charleston’s most iconic and beloved landmarks.

“This edition will illustrate why the Charleston area is named a top destination year after year,” Helen Hill, CEO, Explore Charleston, said in the release. “The vibrant culture, authentic experiences, and genuine hospitality unique to our community continue to make it a place worthy of commemoration."

According to Top Trumps, manufacturers of the official Charleston version of Monopoly under license from global branded entertainment leader Hasbro, the game will be on shelves starting in November, according to the release.

“We want to ensure that Monopoly: Charleston Edition is an accurate portrayal of what locals love about the Holy City, so we would love for everyone to get on ‘board’ and send us their recommendations of what they would like to see included,” Katie Hubbard, representative, Top Trumps, said in the release. “Anything and everything is up for consideration, including the Charleston RiverDogs, the Pineapple Fountain, the Charleston Museum or Rainbow Row, and we want to know your favorite Charleston places that must be on the board — so please get involved.”

Monopoly first hit shelves in 1935 with the Racecar, Thimble, Boot, Top Hat, and Battleship among the original set of MONOPOLY tokens while the Scottie Dog and Wheelbarrow were added in the early 1950s, the release stated.
