The American Chemistry Council has awarded MeadWestvaco Corp. the 2007 Responsible Care Energy Efficiency Award. The award recognizes the companys energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction project, where energy use assessments and operational refinements resulted in significant reductions in energy use and greenhouse gas and particulate emissions.
Barbara McConnaughey of Mediterranean Shipping Co. has been named member of the year by the Charleston Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals for 2008. The award recognizes an administrative professional for accomplishments in encouraging certification, professional growth, education and networking opportunities.
The S.C. Coastal Conservation League, directed by Dana Beach, has been awarded Charity Navigators premier four-star rating for its growth and management of finances. Charity Navigator is an independent charity evaluator that determines the financial health of Americas largest charities.

U.S. Army Brig. Gen. (Ret.) Hugh Tant III has been named executive director of the Patriots Point Development Authority. Tant previously worked as senior vice president for business development at Southcoast Community Bank in Mount Pleasant and has served as chairman of the Mount Pleasant War Memorial Committee, chairman of the Gen. William Moultrie High School Grand Reunion and executive board member of The Salvation Army.
J. Dean Foster, president and CEO of Foster Associates Inc. and DrinkTap communications group, appeared at the American Water Works Associations Annual Conference and Exposition on June 8 where he delivered a speech, The Power of Social Media to Revolutionize Your Communications Strategy.
The Medical University of South Carolina awarded honorary degrees to the following five individuals for their contributions and benevolence to the university. William A. Baker Jr., chairman of the board of The Baker Companies, was awarded a doctor of humane letters. Baker has served as vice chairman of the board of directors of the MUSC Foundation, vice chairman of Northern Westchester Hospital, and founding board member of the Stellaris Health Network. Yoshito Kaziro, a foreign associate of the U.S. National Academy of Science, was awarded a doctor of medical science, honoris causa. A mentor to international scientists, Kaziro has worked at the DNAX Research Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology in Palo Alto, Calif., Stanford University and Kyoto University. Kenneth W. Kizer, a member of the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine, was awarded a doctor of medical science, honoris causa. Kizer has served as CEO of Medsphere Systems Corp., undersecretary of health in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, founding president and CEO of the National Quality Forum. Sen. William H. ODell was awarded a doctor of humane letters. ODell represents Abbeville, Anderson and Greenwood counties and has served on the Greenwood County School Board, the Abbeville Development Board, the Ware Shoals United Way and the boards of visitors of The Citadel, Piedmont Technical College and the S.C. Chamber of Commerce. He earned the first S.C. Small Business Legislator of the Year Award and is currently CEO of the ODell Corp. Sen. Harvey S. Peeler Jr. was awarded a doctor of humane letters. Peeler represents Cherokee, Spartanburg, Union and York counties, has served on the Cherokee County Council, numerous Senate committees and was named Public Servant of the Year by the S.C. Chamber of Commerce.
Select Health of South Carolina received silver and bronze awards in the 2008 Aster Awards competition, hosted by Marketing Healthcare Today and Creative Images Inc. Select Health received a silver award for its auto-enrollment communications campaign which consisted of outdoor and broadcast advertising. The company won a bronze award for its 2007 annual report to the community.
Charleston landscape architectural firm, DesignWorks LC won a merit award from the local chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects for the landscape design of Cattle Trough Park on Daniel Island.

Patricia C. Johnson, CEO of Summerville Medical Center, has become a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Fellows must pass a comprehensive examination, meet academic and experiential criteria, earn continuing education credits and demonstrate professional and community involvement.

The academy was hosted by the Governors State Office of Victim Assistance, the Medical University of South Carolinas National Crime Victims Research and Treatment Center and the S.C. Victim Assistance Network. McAllister has 15 years of experience in social work.
Lawn & Landscape magazine has ranked The Greenery the 37th largest landscape company on its Top 100 list. Published in the June issue, the list is based on 2007 year-end revenue.
Select Health of South Carolina was selected as the recipient of the IMARA 2008 Corporate Award. IMARA Woman magazine presents the award annually to a corporate entity that shares the magazines mission of service and empowerment in minority communities.
Classic Remodeling & Construction Inc., led by president Bob Fleming, has received the Guildmaster with Distinction award for customer satisfaction from GuildQuality, a firm that monitors homebuilder and remodeler performance and customer service nationwide.
Andra L. Watkins, principal of Positus Consulting LLC, has been appointed to the board of directors for the East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club for a one-year term. She has been a member of the club for six years. Currently, she serves as the chairwoman of the public relations committee.
For the 20th consecutive year, the Government Finance Officers Association has awarded Charleston County the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its annual comprehensive financial report. Charleston County Assistant Controller Carla R. Creech was also recognized with the Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for her role in preparing the award-winning financial report. Creech has been employed with Charleston County for six years.
