Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. Submissions should be sent to dailyjournal@scbiznews.com.

Rock the Rescue, a two-day music festival benefiting Frances R. Willis SPCA, is scheduled for 8 p.m. Aug. 18 and 19 at six venues in Summerville, North Charleston and Charleston. The event will include a raffle.

All-access passes are on sale for $20 until Aug. 16. Tickets will be available at the door for $7 per venue each night. Attendees must be at least 21 years old.


The Parklands FoundationCharleston County Park and Recreation Commission’s nonprofit partner, had more than 150 youth spend a free day at the SK8 Charleston skate park as part of its Skate Forward initiative. The event was supported by a $30,000 grant from The Speedwell Foundation. Skate Forward’s goal is to develop programs that give access and introduce the sport of skateboarding to low-income communities near the park.


Sea Island Habitat is set to host its House That Beer Built event from 4 to 9 p.m. Sept. 30 at Bohemian Bull Beer Garden. The event will include specially prepared beers from local breweries, food and live music from Jump Castle Riot.

Admission is free, and 100% of the proceeds will go to purchasing construction materials.


Tiger Lily florist is set to host a Design for Charity class series from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 28 and Oct. 24. The classes, taught by Tiger Lily co-owner Clara Gonzales, will include wine, sweets from Christophe Artisan Chocolatier and mini cupcakes from Sugar Bakeshop.

Tickets are $75 or $125, and flower selection depends on current availability. Proceeds from the Sept. 28 class will benefit Lowcountry Food Bank, and proceeds from the Oct. 24 class will benefit Meals on Wheels.

Registration is required, and space is limited to 14 people per class.


The Charleston RiverDogs are hosting an online charity auction during August to benefit the Medical University of South Carolina Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Items up for bid include a stay at Wild Dunes Resort, New York Yankees tickets with airfare, a Charleston harbor boat charter and a private showing for 25 people at the Terrace Theater.

Visit RileyParkEvents.com to bid. Bidding closes at 5 p.m. Aug. 31, and winners will be notified with details on how to claim items and packages.
