Helping Out highlights some of the many charitable events and activities going on in the Charleston area. Submissions should be sent to dailyjournal@scbiznews.com.

Preserve The Gullah and CharlestonGood are scheduled to host Geechee Gala: An Archival Fundraiser from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at 2 Canal St. in downtown Charleston. The event will include yoga, hand drums, food, oral stories passed down through generations and artwork for sale.

This event is free and open to the public; donations are encouraged. The funds from the event will benefit the historic preservation and restoration of the Mosquito Beach coastline.

Luxury Simplified Retreats has donated $7,000 to the board of Follypalooza, a street festival in late October that raises funds for cancer patients and those with critical and chronic illnesses who have a connection to the Folly Beach community.

The funds donated were obtained from proceeds received from a parking lot that Luxury Simplified Retreats purchased.
