Shimano Inc., a Japanese manufacturer of products for bicycle, rowing and fishing industries, plans to expand its Lowcountry footprint, according to a news release.
The Osaka-based company established operations in Charleston County in 2002 with the opening of a distribution center, which it expanded in 2012. Shimano has now added a 22,000-square-foot office building to existing operations at 9560 Palmetto Commerce Parkway in Ladson.
Hiring is underway. The company said it plans to create 30 jobs.
“Shimano’s American growth in S.C. allows us to become personally and professionally closer to, and more deeply connected to, the largest fishing markets in the country,” Shimano American President Dave Pfeiffer said in the release.
Founded in 1921, Shimano produces bicycle components, fishing tackle, lifestyle gear and rowing equipment. It has more than 11,000 employees globally.
