IFA Group, a German automotive supplier, plans to expand its Lowcountry operations with a new 234,000-square-foot facility in Berkeley County.
The company plans to invest $69 million into hiring 120 people in the coming years and building a manufacturing and distribution facility at 479 Trade Center Parkway in Summerville.
The company manufactures driveshafts for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles — producing around 2 million annually at its Ladson operation, at 9770 Patriot Blvd. Customers include BMW and Mercedes, among other major automakers.
“IFA has a vision to be a Top 100 auto supplier, and this latest investment is part of that plan,” IFA's North American president and CEO Mauro Amarante said in a news release. “For 15 years, IFA has been growing with the region, and we are in a position of strength within our market.”
The new building will add constant-velocity joint manufacturing to its North American business portfolio, the company said. Hiring will begin in the second quarter of 2018.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits for the project. The state did not disclose the amount.
Berkeley County received a $150,000 closing fund grant to offset some of the cost to prepare the site, the S.C. Department of Commerce said in the release.
