Fifteen high school juniors and seniors will become apprentices at the Hendrick Automotive Group in Charleston and North Charleston, according to a news release.
The company, which manages 12 dealerships in the Lowcountry, is participating in the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce’s Youth Apprentice Program. Participating high school students will attend Trident Technical College and serve a two-year apprenticeship at a Hendrick dealership. They will be trained and work part time during the school year and full time during the summer break, the news release said.
“The program is an incredible opportunity for young students wanting to pursue a rewarding career as an automotive technician,” Hendrick community relations specialist Brad Davis said in the news release. “Through the support of the chamber’s Accelerate Greater Charleston (scholarship) program, students’ tuition, books and tools are covered by businesses like ours that contribute to the chamber’s program.”
