Dear Readers,

Exactly one week ago, I invited you to pitch in to help nearly 80 kids in the Charleston Halos program who had been not sponsored this year, even though the deadline had passed.

We had one week to get it done, and you responded quickly and enthusiastically, and I offer a tremendous thank-you!

Gifts for Charleston Halos kids are filling our office. We understand there are many organizations and activities competing for your time, money and attention during this time of year, so we were blown away by the positive reaction to our request.

But we were not surprised.

Charleston is a special place, and its community service roots run deep. The extended family of people who keep in touch with what’s going on here responded, along with those get to live here year-round. We received gifts from as far north as Baltimore, all the way down to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands, and lots of places in between.

We’ll be taking gifts in our office until 6:30 p.m. today. And if you’re having trouble getting the gifts to our office, at 1439 Stuart Engals Blvd., Suite 200, in Mount Pleasant, give us a call, and someone from our staff will drop by your place.

Sincerely,

Grady Johnson
