William H. Hutto will retire as executive director of TriCounty Link after 16 years of service.

His announcement comes as the commuter bus service was named the Best Rural Public Transportation Provider of 2012 at the Transportation Association of South Carolina conference.

Hutto received a S.C. Department of Transportation director’s award and a special award from the transportation association for his years of leadership as executive director.

TriCounty Link was established in 1996 as the Berkeley, Charleston, Dorchester Rural Transportation Management Association.

“Being recognized as the best rural system in the state is the result of a team effort and is particularly special to me as I prepare to retire,” Hutto said. “I would like to thank every employee and each TriCounty Link board member for their hard work and dedication. Once a new director has been named, I look forward to assisting with a smooth transition and to seeing the link continue to provide excellent transportation service to our communities."
