Community involvement

Speizman is an advocate for children who must be fed by a feeding tube and those who have eating issues. As the mother of a daughter who was born premature and was fed via a feeding tube, Speizman experienced a lack of support for mothers and children in these situations. She is working with local therapists to start a feeding mini-clinic this summer and has been trying to reach out to other mothers for support.

Personal mission statement: Everyone has a story. I live this way since my daughter was born at 30 weeks, and was 2 pounds, 3 ounces. She spent four months in the NICU at MUSC. If you remember that statement and live life without taking “no” or “it can’t be done” as an option, you will live a strong, powerful and very happy life.

Best career advice you’ve ever been given: A business is only as strong as its weakest link. I work by the motto, “I’ll make it happen; what’s the question?”

Books on your nightstand: Various books by Dorothea Benton Frank, Anne River Siddons, Jodi Picoult and anything fiction about the Lowcountry.

Best stress reliever: Laughing with my kids. Nothing is better.

Favorite vacation spot: Perdido Key, Fla., with my extended family.

First job: Receptionist at Outback Steakhouse International corporate office.
