Charleston’s first distillery to release one of a kind bourbon barrel beer at celebration party

Striped Pig Distillery and Ghost Monkey Brewery announce release party for limited edition bourbon barrel beer with just 99 bottles available, coinciding with Taproom Takeover.

The award-winning, woman-owned Striped Pig Distillery (SPD), Charleston’s first distillery since prohibition, is excited to announce a Bourbon Barrel Beer Release Party to mark the official release of “BBB,” a one of a kind bourbon barrel aged beer made in collaboration with Ghost Monkey Brewery (GMB), celebrating in tandem with the exciting news of a Taproom Takeover as GMB prepares to relocate next door to SPD in the coming months. BBB is a blonde stout expertly crafted by Ghost Monkey Brewery that has been aged for 18 months in Striped Pig Distillery Bourbon Barrels, creating a never to be replicated beer with an exceptional nuanced flavor profile. Only 99 bottles of BBB will be available for purchase at the Release Party, and a limited supply of the beer will be available on draft until it runs out. The Release Party will take place at Striped Pig Distillery on Saturday, May 25th from 2-7pm. In addition to excellent beer and cocktails, enjoy live music and food from Big Boned BBQ (2-6pm) and Dolce Vita Ice Cream Sandwiches (3-7pm). General admission to the event is free. Following the news that the building that has been home to Ghost Monkey Brewery since its inception nearly a decade ago would be sold, it seemed only fitting for GMB to relocate next to SPD, given the brands’ synergy and passion for excellent drinks and their history of epic collaborations. GMB and SPD announced their first project together nearly two years ago, with the release of “New BeGINnings,” a belgian style witbier featuring the flavor profiles of SPD’s award-winning gin. At the same time, they announced a bourbon barrel aged beer in the works, which the teams recently decided was aged to perfection. A release party featuring another exceptional beer collaboration and the official launch of the Taproom Takeover seemed like a great way to celebrate Ghost Monkey’s move, while also giving people a chance to check out the new digs where GMB will be setting up shop.

“We’ve loved all of our collaborations with Ghost Monkey Brewery. What’s not to love? When you bring a pig and monkey together, it’s nothing but fun,” said the team at Striped Pig Distillery. “But after patiently waiting 18 months, when we finally got to taste BBB, we said, okay, you have to move in with us. We might be partial to our bourbon’s flavor profile, but this is easily one of the best beers we’ve ever tasted. Of course the GMB team was sad to say goodbye to their brewery home for the past 8 years as it saw a vision come to life and housed so many memories and good times. That said, we’re over the moon to feature Ghost Monkey beers with a Taproom Takeover, as they make the transition to their new space next door, which we affectionately refer to as Ghost Monkey 2.0. We started out our partnership excited to bring our stories and passion together to innovate on some unique products that our customers won’t be able to experience anywhere else, and we think this move will do just that in a big way. With the Taproom Takeover officially beginning at the BBB Release Party, guests will be able to select from 9 GMB beers on tap in Striped Pig’s “Beer Alley,” where GMB flights and growlers will also be available to purchase. As a woman-owned, family-run, community-driven business, Striped Pig is also delighted to commit $2 for every bottle sold at the event to benefit the non-profit MiniSkirt in conjunction with its Sip & Share program. Striped Pig is the only WBENC certified soon to be Distillery-Brewery hybrid in the area, and is dedicated to fostering community growth, particularly through initiatives like miniskirt, which provides young women aged 14-24 with mentorship to grow their financial literacy, entrepreneurship, business and life skills.
